Driving in Spring

This is by far the most popular season for purchasing a new car and our customers have access to some of the best Lease deals in the UK.

Spring is one of the most popular seasons for the UK to get out on the roads. This is because the weather is brightening up and who doesn't love a good Spring morning drive.

We have put together some tips for driving in the Spring.

Lots of people tend to not clean their vehicles over the Winter period as its cold and constantly wet meaning you are bringing in and out dirty wet shoes every day. When spring comes we would recommend giving your car a thorough clean inside and out.

Inside the car could be damp which will leave nasty smells and bacteria which is the last thing you want to experience when you get in to the car in the morning.

It is good to give the outside of your vehicle attention after the harsh conditions of Autumn and Winter because fallen leaves, salt on the roads and dirt will all have a negative impact on your paintwork and wheels. If you want to keep your car looking as good as new it is best to give the paintwork a good polish to bring it back to life.

Sounds all pretty obvious right? Well here are some things that you might not know about driving in spring:

Road deterioration - When the roads begin to warm tarmac can sometimes crack causing more potholes if there weren't enough already! It is important to keep a safe breaking distance from vehicles in front as you don't know whats ahead.

Pedestrians - When spring comes around lots of people tend to walk more which means you need to be extra careful of people crossing and children playing out on the streets.

Wildlife - Spring brings birth to lots of animals especially in the countryside so be aware of badgers, fox’s, rabbits and so on as they have a tendency to run out in to the road when you least expect it.

If you are one to change your Tyres for Winter then its time to get them swapped to a normal set of rubber.

It is important to slow down when you see Spring rain showers as this is when roads can be most slippy because of all of the contaminants on the road which have not had time to disperse yet.

Dealerships and garages have their work cut out for them in the Spring as this is the best time to get your annual maintenance work done. We would recommend that you get all of the oils changed, along with pollen filters so that the vehicle is operating at its best for the warmer climate to come.

It is also crucial to check tyre pressures when you get back on the road. This is due to the harsh changes in temperature deflating tyres.

Jonathan Cahill Lets talk finance said - when I used to work for car dealership’s all the cars on the forecourt had tyre pressure warning lights on over the winter so it was a frequent job we had to do on early winter mornings along with de icing and gritting customer walk ways.

As the Sun is low in spring we would recommend keeping a set of sunglasses in the car so that your vision is not impaired when driving especially in the mornings on the way to work or to drop the kids off at school.
